Hello folks. The real modern issue facing the world is Climate Change. Alot of people say its not real, blah blah blah, ect. But the fact is, there is solid scientific evidence backing up the theory of Climate Change, and the effects of Climate Change on the Earth. But this post isn’t about debating whether or not climate change is real. This post is assuming that Climate Change is in-fact real, happening, and a really bad thing. Why must stopping climate change; taking required actions to combat the effects; taking as long as it currently is?
“But Pithdog, most of the industrialized world just went through a major recession!” I know, I know. Maybe my perception of this recession has been alluded because of the fact Australia didn’t really recede – but actually grew in some sectors. But thats besides the point. Recessions aren’t going to matter when we can’t breathe or when the average day is 35°C; or when the fertile grasslands turn to arid deserts. Its not going to take the worlds governments much to redirect a small percentage of total funds to combating climate change, instead of the dismal amount they do now. Heck. If the government really got behind climate change, they could even eventually break even or make money!
Think of all the money that gets pumped into the Coal Industry every year. If you live in the valley, you’d know this especially. Pretty much, in the valley, no matter where you are, there’ll be atleast one coal power station on the horizon. Now. They replace those dirty, money guzzling power stations with: Wind Power, Hydro Electricity, Biomass, Geothermal, Solar, ect ect. The only money the government would be spending is on installation, decommission and deconstructing (The old powerplants), commissioning and constructing (The new powerplants), and lastly, maintenance (To keep the new renewable energy generators in ‘Tip-Top Shape’.
The recurring costs of these renewable energies is vastly smaller then that of the polluting ‘Dirty Power’ industry. And if the power companies charged the same or even slightly less then they do currently, the power companies, and conversely, the government, would actually be making money! Whilst saving the environment! Huzzah!
On the flip side, I do agree that the initial cost of this would be incredible. I’m sure the good people leading the top nations could figure out a way to get it done. Maybe all the nations could send money to one nation, that one nation gets its power grid upgraded to full renewable energy. Because that one nation is now making a profit of its energy, it will send that profit and more to another single nation, along with the rest of world. The cycle then continues till everyone has a fully renewable energy grid. This would require great co-operation, but I believe its better then every nation slowly upgrading their own bit by bit. It’ll never get done that way.
Lastly, sorry for the lack of posts lately. I’ve been busy, and been through a rough kinda time. Emotional turmoil if you will. I’ll be trying to update more often, and get Takorii, Chammy and Zara back on board.
